Luggage fabric Oxford knowledge

The raw materials of fabrics used on luggage include nylon and poly, and occasionally they are mixed. Nylon is nylon and poly is polyethylene. Both materials are extracted from petroleum. Nylon is a little better than poly. In terms of fabric, nylon feels softer. For example, n.1000d Cordura, that is, 1000D nylon Cordura is a material + fiber degree + textile method.

D is the abbreviation of denier. Denier is the unit of measure of fiber. The calculation method is: 1 gram per 9000 meters long line is called a denier. (i.e. the lower the denier, the finer the fiber). Formula d = g / L × 9000 Therefore, the smaller the number in front of D, the thinner its line and the smaller its density. For example, the grain of 210D material is particularly fine, which is generally used as the lining or compartment of the bag. The 900D or 1000D material has thick grain and thick thread, which is very wear-resistant. It is generally used as the bottom of the package.

Some fabrics that often appear in backpacks are:

DuPont nylon (Cordura)

It is a kind of fabric invented by DuPont company. It has the functions of light, fast-drying, soft and strong durability. It is not easy to change color after long-term use. It is said that this kind of fabric will appear in two colors from different angles. Except for DuPont's company, others do not know how to produce this material. It is usually woven with nylon and takes denier as the strength standard, including 160D, 210D, 330D, 420D, 600D, 900D, 1000D, etc. the higher the number, the stronger the texture and the thicker the texture. Generally, 160D to 210D are used on clothes or as the lining of general outdoor bags. This kind of material has a coating on the back, so it won't get wet in the general moderate rain.

Oxford nylon (Oxford)

Oxford warp is woven by winding two strands, and weft is also made of relatively thick thread. Its textile method is up and down, which is a very general textile method. Generally 210D and 420D materials. The reverse side is coated. Used as the lining or compartment of a bag.

Imitation DuPont nylon (kora)

Kodra is a fabric produced in Korea. To some extent, it can replace Cordura. It is said that the inventor of this fabric originally wanted to study how Cordura was spun. In the end, he did not study it but invented a new fabric, kora. This fabric is generally woven with nylon and takes the fiber degree as the strength standard, such as 600D and 1000D. The reverse side is coated, similar to Cordura.

High-density nylon (HD)

HD is short for high density, which means high density. The fabric is similar to Oxford. It is generally 210D and 420D and is usually used as the lining or compartment of the bag. The reverse side is coated.

Rubberized nylon (R / s)

R / S is short for Rip-Stop. This fabric is nylon with small squares. Its tenacity is stronger than ordinary nylon, and the periphery of the square on the fabric is a thicker thread. The middle of the square is woven with fine thread. Generally, there are 300D, 330D, 450D, etc., which can be used as the main material of backpacks, such as large noodles, outer pockets, etc. The reverse side is coated.

Tignylon (dobby)

Dobby's fabric seems to be composed of many very small lattices, but if you look carefully, you will find that it is woven with one thick and one thin thread, and the lines on the front and back are different. Generally, there are few coatings. The strength is much worse than Cordura and is generally only used in leisure bags or short-distance travel bags. Not on the mountaineering bag.

Super nylon (velocity)

Velocity is also a kind of nylon cloth. Very strong. It is also commonly used in mountaineering bags. The reverse side is coated. With 420D or higher strength. The front of the fabric looks like dobby.

Waterproof nylon (taffeta)

Taffeta is a very thin coated fabric, some of which are coated more than once, so the waterproof performance is better. Generally, the main fabric of the backpack is not made, but only the raincoat or the rainproof cover of the backpack.

Polyethylene sizing (poly PU)

Generally, poly is used instead. Poly density is generally 64t (low), 74t (medium), and 82t (high). The strength of the fabric is getting stronger and stronger from 150D to 1800d. Generally, the bag with high strength of 600D can be used as the bottom of a mountaineering bag. However, its textile method is not as strong as Cordura.

Air mesh

General Chinese call it a space network, which is different from a general network. There is a gap between the mesh surface and the material below, which is generally 3mm or larger. It is this kind of gap that makes it have good ventilation performance, so it is generally used as a strap or back or other places close to the body.

The general net has many specifications. A nylon net is used on the bag. It is generally only placed on both sides of the bag as a sundry bag or water bag.

1. Polyester polyester fiber

Also known as polymer, it is characterized by good air permeability and moisture removal. It also has strong acid, alkali, and ultraviolet resistance.

2. Spandex --- telescopic nylon

Also known as spandex, it has the advantages of high elasticity, high scalability, and good recovery. Generally, the use of 2% can improve the sense of motion, drape, and type retention of the fabric. The weakness is weak alkaline resistance; It is easy to turn yellow and brittle when exposed to chlorine or ultraviolet radiation. Poor heat resistance. It is often used as auxiliary material and blended with other materials. Famous materials include Lycra of Dupon in the United States and "Darlaston" of Bayer in Germany; "Roica" of A.K. (Asahi Kasei) in Japan

3. Nylon --- nylon

Also known as nylon, polyamide fiber. The advantages are high strength, high wear resistance, high chemical resistance, good resistance to deformation, and aging resistance. The disadvantage is that it feels hard. The more famous ones are pertex and Cordura
